Two Killed in Irvine McLaren Crash and Fire on Culver Drive

IRVINE, CALIFORNIA (September 13, 2026): Two people died early Sunday when a 2019 McLaren sports car crashed and caught fire at Culver Drive and Deerfield Avenue, according to the Irvine Police Department. Spokesman Kyle Oldoerp said the McLaren was stopped at the signal and, when the light turned green at about 12:20 a.m., accelerated northbound on Culver Drive at a high rate of speed. Police said the driver lost control, veered to the right, struck a curb and slammed into a tree, splitting the car in two before it burst into flames, as reported by NBC Los Angeles and MyNewsLA. The department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is examining roadway and vehicle conditions, the vehicle’s speed and any factors that may have affected the driver’s operation of the car.
